Created for Gallery1988's Focus Features show, celebrating the films produced by the studio-- I chose to pay tribute to Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind. With its trippy visuals and cerebral sci-fi concept, this film reminded me of the "New Wave" SF of the 1960s and '70s, so I tried to tap into the aesthetic of those old paperback covers. The image was painted in acrylics and the text was added digitally. I also decided to give the print a distinctly weathered and grungy look, inspired by the earthy palette of the movie. The end result looks like a book that you might find forgotten and abandoned on the beach, or perhaps on the seat next to you on the train to Montauk.
